Academy Offerings
This season, the Academy will be in session June 14 to July 1, 2015. The activity schedule will include two time segments, each culminating in a concert. Over the 16-day period OA will offer a variety of activities including orchestral training, masterclasses for various instruments, private instruction, chamber music, and more.
Attendance of the Academy is free and is based solely on merit. The academy will offer 35 tuition-remissions: 22 in the string area, 12 for winds and one for percussion. Masterclasses for flute, oboe, clarinet, bassoon, violin, viola, cello and percussion will be taught by outstanding performers/teachers. All attendees of the Academy will have a festival pass allowing them free access to all festival events
Application Procedure
To participate in the activities of Orpheus Academy 2015 (June 14-July 1) you will need to apply on line. Application form is available on line (click here) or by writing to the Academy administration at orpheus@oregonmusicfest.org. Orpheus Academy is open to qualified young musicians ages 14-25. Accepted musicians will receive full tuition remission permiting them involvement in all Orpheus Academy activities and free access to all festival events.
About the Academy
The specific goals of the Academy are:
• Artistic self-discovery and discipline
• Development of artistic identity, personality, and artistic insight
• Development of individual artistic skills as a soloist and ensemble musician
• Kindling of personal artistic vision, commitment,
enthusiasm and zeal for the art of music
• Learning and the development of the appreciation of new literature
• Intelligent pursuit of excellence and understanding of music performance.
• Overall, developing a healthy self-identity as an artist vis a vis fellow musicians and the community at large
Over the coming years, the Academy plans to provides a wide range of focused, high quality educaional opportunities, offering daily instruction by outstanding performing faculty. Instruction will take many forms encouraging lateral, peer-to-peer learning/teaching, students performing side-by-side with their mentors and guest faculty, as well as the conventional instruction in form of private lessons, master-classes, workshops and chamber ensembles. In addition, all academy participants will be expected to be a part of the Academy Orchestra depending on the student’s specialty.
We are drive toward the goal of offering exceptional opportunities for young musicians and we remain committed to the idea of cross-cultural enrichment, diversity, and innovation. Learning at Orpheus should be challenging and at the same time enjoyable. Orpheus Academy is meant to become a jewel opportunity for music learning.
